Sell What You've Seen: Tanzania FAM Trips for Travel Advisors

Clients can hear the difference between an advisor who has stood on the crater rim and one reading a brochure. EXG Safaris runs familiarization trips for U.S. and Canadian advisors — game drives plus structured lodge inspections, in groups small enough to ask every question.

Quick Answer

A FAM (familiarization) trip lets travel advisors experience the product they sell. EXG Safaris runs Tanzania FAM trips for U.S. and Canadian advisors in 7-, 10-, and 12-day formats, combining game drives with lodge inspections in groups of 2–6 advisors per vehicle. Registration opens separately for peak-season and off-season departures.

"Shared a once in a lifetime experience with the most wonderful safari partner, EXG Safaris. Everything was perfect from the wildlife sightings, our guide Pateick Paul beyond amazing (knowledgeable, patient and fun!) The hotel and tent hotel accommodations were beyond spectacular. It was a learning opportunity as a travel advisor and I look forward to sharing this experience with my clients as they are ready to book a once in a lifetime experience... highly recommend EXG."

The Basics

What Is a FAM Trip — and Why Take One?

A familiarization trip is a working trip: you travel the routes your clients will travel, inspect the lodges they will sleep in, and meet the guides and operations team who will run their safaris. It is the fastest way to turn Tanzania from a destination you list into a destination you sell:

  • Recommend lodges you have walked through, not scrolled past
  • Quote drive times and routing from experience, not a supplier PDF
  • Answer client objections — safety, comfort, pacing — firsthand
  • Meet the ground team that will run your clients' trips

Product knowledge closes safari sales. FAM trips are how you get it.

Timing

When Do FAM Trips Run — Peak Season or Off-Season?

Both — and registration opens separately for each window, because they teach you different things about the product you sell.

Peak-season FAMs

The dry season, June through October, is when most U.S. clients travel — reliable game viewing, Great Migration river crossings in the northern Serengeti, and lodges at full operation. A peak-season FAM shows you exactly what your highest-value clients will experience, at the busiest the parks get.

Off-season FAMs

The green season, November through May, means fewer vehicles at each sighting, lower rates, and easier lodge availability. An off-season FAM is the accessible entry point — and it teaches you to sell the value season honestly, including calving season around Ndutu in January–February.

To be notified when the next registration window opens, email info@exgsafaris.com with your agency details and preferred season.

Eligibility

Who Qualifies for an EXG FAM Trip?

FAM departures are reserved for working travel advisors in the U.S. and Canada — independent advisors, hosted agents, and agency teams — at any experience level, including advisors who have never sold safari before.

Advisors in the EXG Advisor Program can apply directly once their account is active; EXG runs multiple FAM departures per year for qualified advisors. Not in the program yet? Start there — joining is free — or email the team to talk through fit first.
